Women’s Studio Workshop

Located within a small group of houses next to the Wallkill rail trail in Ulster County New York, these two buildings house printmaking, paper making and ceramic studios. I have been working in the bindery and will also be in the printing studio when we work on the cover of my book. I am living in a house just down the road.

In the nineteenth century this area produced Rosendale cement, which was used in such famous landmarks as the Brooklyn Bridge. Today the quarries are evidently covered in water and all that remains is a chimney, kilns and a few other stone ruins.

I have been walking on the Wallkill Trail, much different experience than my daily walks in Pittsburgh during the covid lockdown and my recent walks in my new neighborhood in Chicago.

  1. Looks great. So you’re back in Chicago=where?? I still want to purchase your book–is that possible? (Sorry, just saw this e-mail in Spam!!)

      • Roselle Holcombe. I stayed in the Evanston Airbnb with you a couple years ago and we talked a lot about being Jewish in Chicago. I mentioned Polish Whitefish from the Bagel and we talked in their dining room as I was finishing the leftovers from there. You showed some of your wonderful books and I thought they were fabulous.

    • I do remember you, and I remember having a long conversation with you, but don’t remember any of the details. I’m impressed that you remembered and were able to find me just as the book was coming out. I not only had a book published but got a great grandson who brought the family together here in Logan Square. Good times.

      • Logan Square looks nice=not really familiar with it although I have driven through. I grew up in Austin and then moved to West Rogers Park. Congrats on you GREAT grandson!! Mazel!! Looked at your fabulous book, but at $700, it’s a bit out of my league. I did enjoy seeing your books at the Evanston Airbnb and love that memory. Best wishes and hope you enjoy the move!!
